Mission Statement
Rogers Free Library, a tax supported institution, exists to provide access
to information in a wide variety of formats to all Bristol residents (and the wider
community,) whatever their needs: cultural, educational. practical or recreational.
The Library recognises and accepts its responsibility to accomodate and to
promote the lifelong learning aspirations of adults in the community; to reach out
to those with special needs by expending funds for special collections and services
to nurture literacy, and providing materials(such as large print books and audio
books) to the visually handicapped.
The Library actively strives to satisfy the recreational, informational,
and educational needs of adults, young adults, and children through materials and
programs relevant to their interests. To that end, the library works closely with
parents to build partnerships with the community's school
librarian, teachers, educational personnel and other agencies in the town.
In response to evolving and emerging technology, Rogers Free Library
incorporates databases and the Internet as integral elements of its service to the
public.
Rogers Free Library embraces the American Library Association's policies
regarding freedom of access to materials, including the Library Bill of Rights,
Freedom to Read, Freedom to View, and relevant statements contained in the
Intellectual Freedom Manual. The Library, moreover, upholds all citizens right to
information and the right to confidentiality of user records.
A strong advocate of intellectual freedom, Rogers Free Library promotes
access without regard to age, gender, educational achievement, ethnic or religious
background, political affilaiation, sexual orientation or economic status of its
patrons. Adopted 19 September 2006.
