Do you know someone who needs help learning to read? There are many programs available for adults, children, and families.

Free literacy programs of all kinds are available throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut. Native English speakers as well as those for whom English is a second language can find the literacy help they need to help them meet their workplace, family, and community goals.

Literacy Volunteers of Rhode Island is a state affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a national nonprofit organization. They provide training & information services to seven Learning Volunteers of RI community literacy programs. They also act as a statewide clearing house for literacy information and referrals for adult literacy programs. LV of RI raises funds that help support critical services to volunteer tutors and learners.

Adult learners can enroll in a variety of unique education programs that help them to meet their workplace, family and community goals: family literacy programs with basic literacy, pre-GED, GED instruction; ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes; specialized instruction for learning disabled students; one-to-one tutoring; "skills Tutor"' a comprehensive, interactive, internet instruction program; computer classes; intergenerational family reading, employablility and life skills classes. Certified Wilson Reading Program instructors on staff.
