Jesse Smith Library & CLAN Catalogs   [Menu]

CLAN's Millennium is the online access to Jesse Smith and all CLAN library catalogs. Online, you can place holds, renew library materials, and check on fines owed. Use your 14-digit CLAN card number to log in.



Online Reference Resource   [Menu]

The Jesse Smith Library's Online Reference Resource was designed to help Patrons find the answers to the most common reference questions when the library's resources aren't available. Here you will find links to the most useful reference resources on the Internet.


Infotrac Databases   [Menu]

Any CLAN card holder can access these databases through the Providence Public Library's InfoTrac SearchBank Page. Click on the link to access the page, then type your CLAN card number in the box and hit enter. This will take you to the database selection page. Click on the database link to begin your search.

The following databases are available there:

Gen'l Reference Ctr Gold (GPIP) 1996 - Jan 2000 with access to backfile (1980 - 1995) Use this general interest/business database to search magazines, newspapers, and reference books for information on business, industry, current events, the arts, science, entertainment, etc.

General Business File ASAP 1997 - Jan 2000 with access to backfile (1980 - 1996) Use this database to find articles on: Finance, Acquisitions & Mergers, International Trade, Money Management, New Technologies & Products, Local & Regional Business Trends, Investments and Banking.

Predicasts PROMPT 1996 - Dec 1999 Predicasts Overview of Markets and Technology. Use this database to research companies, the products and technologies they produce, and the markets in which they compete. Includes summaries and full text from nearly 1,000 business and trade journals, industry newsletters, newspapers, market research studies, news releases, and investment and brokerage firm reports.

Health Reference Center 1995 - DEC 1999 Use this database to find articles on: Fitness, Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, etc. The material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only. Acxiom InfoBase Phone Directory 1999 - 4th quarter Acxiom InfoBase Phone Directory (formerly Pro CD Phone) contains business and residential listings from United States telephone directories. Our library has an extensive Reference Collection, and, if you need assistance, our staff is trained to help you find the answers to most reference questions.

If you have a particularly "knotty" reference question, please call the library (401-568-8244) and find out when Linda, our Reference Specialist, will be on duty. She has training in answering all types of reference questions, and she will be glad to help you find the answers to yours.
