The Library Code of Service
The library public is entitled to easily accessible library collections in
a safe, clean, organized, and appropriate environment, staffed with
friendly, courteous people.
Each member of the library public is to be welcomed, fairly and
courteously, without discrimination.
Service to the public takes precedence over the library's internal
paperwork and internal communications.
Information given to the library public will be based on verifiable,
current sources, clearly communicated, and given in a timely manner.
Books       [Menu]
The library's collection of almost 35,000 titles has been selected
to meet the needs of the people of the community. Everyone toddlers, children,
students of all ages, avid readers, and senior citizens will find
useful and up-to-date titles in non-fiction, as well as a
comprehensive selection of fictional literature ranging from the
classics through contemporary best-sellers.
OSL Access       [Menu]
The Library is a member of OSL, Ocean State Libraries. Through the OSL Public Access terminals located in the
library, patrons have easy on-line access to the collections of all
other participating OSL libraries and their resources. If there's a
book you need that Jesse Smith doesn't own, but which is owned by another OSL library, you can probably get it quickly through OSL Interlibrary Loan.
The OSL catalog can be searched from your home computer via the Internet. If you log in using your OSL library card number, you can place holds and renew materials online, check on what materials you have out and what materials you have requested a hold on, and whether you have fines owing. Please use the OSL link on the Jesse Smith Library's Home Page.
Newspapers, Periodicals & Magazines       [Menu]
The library subscribes to these newspapers:
The Woonsocket Call
The Providence Journal
USA Today
The library subscribes to over 60 different magazine & periodical titles,
and keeps back issues for up to 5 years on most titles. If the library
does not subscribe to the particular magazine or periodical you need,
the EBSCO
on-line magazine index (available from the library's Home Page), or other on-line resources, may be able to provide you
with the article, or you may be able to obtain what you need
through Interlibrary Loan or via the Internet.
CD-Rom Access       [Menu]
If you have a study-related CD-Rom program which has a "self-contained program,"
that is, a program that does not require installation on a computer's
hard drive, you may be able to use one of the library's computers to run
the program. Please bring the CD-Rom disk to the library
so that a determination can be made.
Discount Passes       [Menu]
Circulating Passes Program
Through the generosity of the Friends of the Jesse Smith Library and the Ocean State Power/Burrillville Community Foundation, the library has been able to purchase passes to various museums and regional attractions. These passes may be used by our patrons to obtain free or reduced admission rates.
Please read the General Regulations for more detailed information about the library's borrowing policy.
And check out the Circulating Passes page for details about each of the passes available.
