"Old Town Hall"

Plans are underway to expand our exhibit area into the ‘Old Town Hall’ building which is located on our property at the corner of Union Street and West Main Road.  Much work lies ahead to accomplish this goal.  Our plans are to open the area in the fall of 2008.
Outdoor equipment, both large and small, will be housed in the building. Included is a horse drawn hearse currently on loan to the Little Compton Historical Society, light poles from the Mount Hope Bridge, horse drawn carriages, and large gears from the railroad bridge that once spanned the Sakonnet River.  Many of these have been in our possession for some time.  It is through the opening of the ‘Old Town Hall’ that they will now be on display.  A substantial display will be devoted to Portsmouth’s Agricultural
past.  This is being dedicated to Frank Chase, Portsmouth Farmer.  His daughter Mary has generously donated many large pieces of farm equipment from their Quaker Hill Farm.
