Sunday, September 18, 2 PM--The Classic Winds Woodwind Quintet--This ensemble of flute, oboe, bassoon, French horn, and clarinet is dedicated to bringing the sounds of traditional woodwind quintet music and chamber music to its audiences. We are delighted to welcome these Rhode Island musicians back to the Peace Dale Library. The group performs a wide range of repertories from Beethoven, Mozart and Handel to Strauss and Joplin.

Tuesday, September 20, 7 PM--URI Prof. Scott Molloy--"The Transportation Revolution: Trolley Trips Around Rhode Island, 1892--1914." The advent of trolleys near the turn of the 20th Century--such as the local Sea View Railroad--had a major social and political impact. Travel back to this era with Professor Scott Molloy, former RIPTA bus driver and author of All Aboard: The History of Mass Transportation in Rhode Island, and Trolley Wars: Streetcar Workers on the Line.

Tuesday, October 18, 7 PM--URI Prof. Linda Welters--"A Quilting History of Rhode Island." Linda Welters is likely the world's foremost authority on Rhode Island quilts. She directed the Rhode Island Quilt Documentation Project; was a Visiting Faculty Fellow at the International Quilt Study Center; and co-edited Down by the Old Mill Stream: Quilts in Rhode Island. If you like quilts, don't miss this!

Sunday, October 23, 1:30-3:30 PM--"Your Favorite Books, Our Favorite Desserts." This will be a great opportunity to get suggestions from other book lovers. Bring 3 titles of books, new or old, and share with us why they are on your "favorites" list (5 minute limit please). You bring the favorite book suggestions, and we'll bring our favorite desserts to share! Registration Required--783-4085, xt 112.

Tuesday, November 15, 7 PM--URI Prof. Maury Klein--"The Robber Barons." Maury Klein is the author of 13 books on American history and has had 3 Pulitzer Prize nominations. In 1986, his The Life and Legend of Jay Gould was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Join us for a vivid illumination of the era of Gould and the Robber Barons, some of whom built those famous summer "cottages" in Newport.

Thursday, December 1, 7 PM--author Richard C. Carpenter--"Railroad History of Southern Rhode Island." Don't miss this opportunity to hear the author of A Railroad Atlas of the United States in 1946: New York and New England, whose childhood visits to the Kingston Station inspired a life-long fascination with trains and railroads.

All programs are free of charge and open to the public.
