2008 Summer Reading Program June 23 - August 14
Summer Readers: Children of all ages can register to be Summer Readers. Sign-ups start the week of June 23rd.
The goal: read twelve hours or more during the summer program. All reading counts including whole books, chapters, reading list books, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, newspapers, audio books and anything else that has a title and author. Summer Readers who reach the reading goal will receive a certificate and prize at the finale party.

Summer Activities: Stay cool at the library!
Stories and Songs @ the Library Preschoolers and kids in grades K-2 are invited to the library for stories, songs, jokes, and more. Bring a friend and get ready to laugh. Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m. July 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, and August 5th
Family Movie @ the Library Children with their families are invited to the library auditorium for a free movie and snack. Kids age 10+ may attend without a parent. Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. June 18th, July 9th, July 23rd, and August 6th
CATCH THE READING BUG AT THE PAWTUCKET PUBLIC LIBRARY Free activities designed for families with school-age children
Friday, July 11th at 2:00 p.m. Take Two Storytellers AnneMarie Forer (Ant Annie) and Cindy Killavey (Ms. Bee) are the “Take Two” Tandem Tellers who bring twice the merriment and fun to their stories that include songs and audience participation. You will be laughing as if you have ants in your pants!
Monday, July 14th at 6:30 p.m. Animal Experiences with Dave Marchetti Don’t miss this amazing hands-on session where the audience can learn about a variety of animals and also hold some of them. Here’s a chance to meet some bugs up close and personal along with some of the animals who are their predators!
Monday, July 21st at 6:30 p.m. David Gracer, Entomophagist (guy who eats bugs) Learn about cultures where eating insects is part of ordinary meals. David Gracer believes that eating bugs can help save the environment. He has been on Comedy Central, Animal Planet, and recently spoke at the United Nations in Thailand! Want to eat a bug (or watch your parents eat one)?
Thursday, July 31st at 11:30 a.m. Ronald McDonald’s Sunsational Reading Show Ronald will splash preschool-age children with 30 minutes of reading fun, dive them into a magical adventure, and hike them through “wild reads” to “Catch the Reading Bug.” Join Ronald for magic tricks, jokes, and laughs!
Thursday, August 14th at 6:30 p.m. Bugging Out with Marvelous Marvin Check out Marvelous Marvin’s new show! It’s all about bugs, insects and outdoor exploration. We’ll learn about some amazing bug habits and habitats through a mix of poetry, circus arts, magic tricks, and music.
***After we “bug out” we’ll have our summer finale party with Summer Readers awards, snacks and surprises for everyone.***
